I don't have any bread so I thought I'd make some. Do you guys know what the basic process is? I don't have a bread maker. What is the simplest bread recipe you know using self-raising flour?
Two different easy methods for Beer Bread, using SR flour--you gotta give up a brew though.....
BEER BREAD
3 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1 bottle room temp. beer (12 oz.) (try Guinness Stout for dark, rich bread)
Mix together and put into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Brush with butter immediately. Best cut into thick slices. Good toasted!
BEER BREAD
1 can beer, at room temperature
3 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. sugar
Mix ingredients together. Knead slightly. Divide in 3. Place on cookie sheet like French bread loaves. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes. What is the simplest bread recipe you know using self-raising flour?
EASIEST BREAD RECIPE
Makes 1 loaf.
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 envelope FLEISCHMANN鈥橲 RapidRise Yeast
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons butter or margarine,
cut into pieces
1 egg
3/4 cup warm water (120掳 to 130掳F)
Directions
Insert metal blade in food processor bowl. Add flour, sugar, undissolved yeast, and salt; process 5 to 10 seconds to combine. Add butter and egg. Begin processing, then slowly pour warm water through feed tube just until dough forms a ball, about 10 to 15 seconds (all water may not be needed). Continue processing for 60 seconds to knead dough. Carefully remove dough from processor bowl to lightly floured surface. Cover; let rest on floured surface 10 minutes.
Roll dough to 12 x 7-inch rectangle. Beginning at short end, roll up tightly as for jelly roll. Pinch seam and ends to seal. Place, seam side down, in greased 8-1/2 x 4-1/2-inch loaf pan. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 30 to 45 minutes.
Bake at 375掳F for 30 minutes or until done. Remove from pan; let cool on wire rack.
You can make bisquits or scones if you have dried fruits on hand.
Simply, bisquits are fat and s.r. flour (or reg flour with levening and salt) and water if you want crisp bisquits or milk or cream for softer as in making scones.
1 c s.r. flour
3 T fat---butter, shortening
premade ice water
cut together, then add enough liquid (drain off ice) to make a dough...stir until just incorporated. Moisture level of flour can vary from day to day. It is hard to tell how much water or liquid, I just add by T until moistened.
Lay out couple paper towels, then spread a little (1-2T) of the flour out over the towels, making sure to have a thin layer over all that dough will touch. Pour out dough, knead couple times and then roll or pat out. Sometimes I just cut with a knife and have square bisquits or you can use cutter. Place on veg sprayed shiney baking sheet and bake in preheated 400 oven for 9-12 min or until just golden brown. 1 c flour Makes about 4 bisquits. Slather with butter and homemade jam or jelly.
For scones, use milk or cream for liquid and add 2T sugar for each cup flour. Add 1 T snipped apricots, raisins black currents or craisins, any snipped, dried fruit. Sprinkle tops of scones with sparkling sugar before baking.
You could make an Irish soda bread .... it would not hurt if you use s.r. flour....use soda in the dough anyway ... either white or whole wheat, the version for afternoon tea is made with raisins, a little sugar, and some caraway seeds
