it might be the flavour of the milk?I've seen many recipes for Irish soda bread but none taste like the bread in Ireland. Any suggestions?
Soda Bread
1lb [all-purpose flour]
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
7.5ml cream of tartar
pinch of salt
1oz butter
1 eggwhisked with 300ml buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 220C/425gas7 and grease a baking sheet.Sift the dry ingredients into a big bowl. Cut in the butter and rub into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Make a well in the centre and pour in the egg and buttermilk mixture.Mix thoroughly to make a soft dough.
Turn out onto a floured board and knead lightly for a minute or two. Shape into a round and flatten slightly.Place the loaf on the baking sheet and mark with a deep cross to help it to cook evenly.Bake in the pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes until well risen and lighlty browned. I don't use milk in my recipe. I use buttermilk. Perhaps that is the problem?

im from ireland i wouldnt really know much about cooking but i know you use buttermilk :Dxx
