Looking for a crusty bread recipe not using a bread machine?

I'm giving you the links instead of the recipes, which don't always look good on here. A couple of things that will make your bread crustier:

1. Use a pizza stone if you have one - if you don't, find a clean, plain, tile (no glue or anything on it). This will get as much heat onto the outside of the bread as possible.

2. Bake the bread with a pan of boiling water on the bottom rack of your oven - increases crustiness of crust.

3. Use a recipe that calls for higher temperatures - ones that want you to bake forever at a lower temperature will just make drier bread, not necessarily crunchy.

4. You can make a bread machine recipe by hand - when the bread is supposed to rise, let it rise double size (usually 1 - 3 hours), and hand-kneed yourself. Bake 30 minutes @ 400, then start checking about every 5 - 10 minutes until done.Looking for a crusty bread recipe not using a bread machine?
