Help with a bread recipe?

Is there any way in the world to make Jalapeno Cheese bread without using yeast? I have all other ingredients but the yeast and I can't buy any in my area. (Live in very small place.) I don't want to have to drive 60 miles away for yeast but I would really love to make this bread. Any help would be appreciated.Help with a bread recipe?
How to Make Yeast Free Bread

* 1 Cup of Cornmeal

* 1 Egg

* 1 Teaspoon of Baking Powder

* 1 Teaspoon of Salt

* 1 Tablespoon of Shortening

* Pre-Heated Oven at 375 Degrees

* 1 Cup of Boiling Water

* Regular Size Bread Pan for Baking

* Measuring Cups and Spoons

Steps

Boil 1 cup of water on the stove top. Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees. In large mixing bowl combine these ingredients - 1 cup of cornmeal, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of shortening. Add the boiling water gradually (a small scoop at a time) and mix. Continue adding the boiling water until it creates a paste like consistency.

Add 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. Continue mixing the ingredients until the dough isn't sticking to the side of the bowl. You can use your hands to mix it or a large wooden spoon.

You can grease your bread pan with a little of the shortening or with butter - which ever you prefer. Place the entire mixture into your greased bread pan and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.Help with a bread recipe?
I can't believe even the most hick grocery store doesn't carry a packet of yeast, or a cube of wet yeast in the dairy dept! But I digress....

Here's your recipe. Add a couple Tbsp of chopped jalapenos to it and you're good to go. A few jalapeno slices on top would be pretty, too.

Onion-Cheese Bread

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

3/4 cup finely diced onion

1/2 cup milk

1 egg, beaten

1 1/2 cups biscuit mix

1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar

1/2 teaspoon onion salt

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives or parsley leaves

Butter, for serving

Preheat the oven to 400潞F. Heat the oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until tender, about 7 minutes.

In a large bowl, add the milk and egg to the biscuit mix, stirring just until the mix is moistened. Fold in the onions and 1/2 cup of the cheese.

Spoon the dough into a greased 8-inch round cake pan. Mix the onion salt into the melted butter and drizzle the mixture over the dough. Sprinkle the bread with chives or parsley (or even jalapeno slices) and bake for 15 minutes. Top the bread with the remaining 1/2 cup cheese and bake until the bread is cooked through and the cheese top golden, about 5 minutes longer, Cut the bread into wedges and serve warm with butter.
sounds gorgeous!

I've never made bread without yeast, you might be able to subsitute for LOADS of baking powder.

if its just the drive you're worried about, why not buy some on the internet? ebay is a great place for stuff like this, heres an example 拢2 for loads of yeast delivered to your door:

Steve
You can make cornbread or biscuits with the cheese and jalapenos in them.

Good grief! My little tiny local store keeps yeast all the time. It is a basic necessity here. They may not have loaves of bread, but have such necessities as flour, yeast, baking powder, sugar etc.
